My story

Meet Sam Smith – A Nervous Nelly with a Heart of Gold 💙 Sam Smith is an older cattle dog with a spirit that’s been shaken but not broken. This sensitive soul was transferred to Pets Lifeline from Contra Costa Animal Services, where he found himself on the euthanasia list — not because of anything he did, but simply because time was up. In a large, overwhelmed shelter that must take in all stray and surrendered animals, dogs like Sam are only given 30 days to find a home. After that, their future becomes heartbreakingly uncertain. Luckily, Pets Lifeline stepped in just in time and gave Sam — and a few of his friends — a second chance to be seen, understood, and loved. Right now, Sam is what we lovingly call a “nervous Nelly.” The shelter world has been scary, and while he’s doing his best to trust, he’s still working through his nerves — licking his lips when unsure and taking things slow. But once he opens up, Sam transforms into a playful, energetic goofball who just wants to run, learn, and love. As a classic cattle dog, Sam will thrive in a home that can give him the physical exercise and mental stimulation he craves. He’s friendly with people and slowly learning the ropes of meeting other dogs. With time, patience, and the right environment, Sam is going to shine. If you have the heart to help this deserving boy feel safe again, and the energy to keep up with his zest for life, please visit PetsLifeline.org and fill out an adoption application today. Sam’s waiting for someone who sees past his nerves and into his brilliant potential. 🐾❤️

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sam Smith, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
