My story

Meet Rodger — the social butterfly who apparently didn’t get the memo that “stranger danger” is a thing. This guy has one mission in life: make friends, everywhere, with everyone. Dog? Friend. Human? Friend. Mailman? Best friend. Random leaf blowing across the yard? Probably also a friend. Rodger isn’t just a sweet soul — he’s basically a walking, wagging friendship bracelet, ready to hand out loyalty and affection to anyone who glances his way. If you’re looking for a dog who’s equal parts heart-melter and professional greeter, Rodger’s your guy. For those who’ve been following Rodger’s story, here’s the glow-up you’ve been waiting for. This is the same sweet boy who landed on death row at the shelter after coming in with an embedded collar and a massive wound on his neck. Yeah… not exactly the “welcome to the neighborhood” gift he deserved. But thanks to his amazing foster family, we were able to pull him, patch him up, and welcome him to our fluffy butt family. And now? Just look at that neck — smooth, healed, and ready for endless scritches. Rodger is a 2-year-old, 55lb Great Pyrenees mix with a heart as big as his fluff and a second chance at the life he always deserved. Rodger is basically the guy at a party who hangs out on the edge of the group, nursing a drink, throwing in the occasional comment, and somehow still making everyone love him. He’s smart enough to know the house hierarchy (translation: he’s at the bottom of the Pyrenees totem pole), so he keeps things respectful. He’ll happily run outside with the other Pyr in his foster home, but indoors, he minds his own business like a pro. Stick him with some younger, rowdier pups, though, and I have a feeling he’d be right in the middle of the action like he’s been there all along. With kids, Rodger’s been a gentleman—well, the kind of gentleman who occasionally forgets personal space and breathes directly in your face. He’s done wonderfully with his foster’s three-year-old and, bonus points, he doesn’t jump on people. And people? Oh, Rodger assumes every single one is here for him. Delivery driver, neighbor, random passerby—it’s all just one long meet-and-greet for his fan club. Cats? Yeah… we haven’t run that experiment yet. For all we know, Rodger could treat them like royalty, ignore them completely, or try to recruit them into some kind of interspecies friendship pact. Energy Level Scale: A solid 7 out of 10 — the perfect blend of “let’s go explore” and “let’s go nap after.” Think part playful gazelle, part cozy golden retriever who just wants to be near his people. On a road trip, Rodger is the calm, watchful type. He’ll curl up in the very back, gazing out the rear windshield like he’s taking mental snapshots for his scrapbook. No whining, no fussing—just quietly keeping an eye on the world while soaking up the ride. As long as he’s got a comfy spot and his people nearby, he’s happy to go wherever the road leads. His favorite activities? Running outside with his buddy Mumford, enjoying a good burst of fresh-air fun, and then curling up on the couch for some well-earned relaxation. He’s got that perfect balance of playful and laid-back, making him the ideal match for someone who loves both adventure and lazy afternoons. Personality-wise, Rodger is a genuinely sweet soul who truly wants to be friends with everyone. He can be a little shy about walking past other dogs in tight spaces, but he’s gentle and respectful about it, just watching with those big, thoughtful eyes. And yes—he does believe snacks, sandwiches, and anything remotely edible should be shared with him...and he isn't afraid to give you those big ole sweet puppy eyes. Rodger would thrive with a securely fenced yard or a family that enjoys getting outside with him. He’s the kind of companion who will happily match your energy, whether you’re going for a jog or just enjoying a quiet evening together. Potty training? Nailed it. Rodger’s got that part down like a pro—no surprise puddles, no mysterious “gifts,” just a solid gold A+ in house manners. The kennel, though? Oh, he hates it. We’re talking full-on “wrongly imprisoned” energy. He doesn’t just sit there and sulk—he plots his escape like a canine Andy Dufresne, minus the rock hammer and Shawshank poster. If he could file a formal complaint with management, he would. Barking style? Let’s just say Rodger is more of a “group participation” kind of guy. If another dog barks, he’s in. Doesn’t matter if it’s a squirrel, the UPS truck, or a particularly aggressive tumbleweed—he’s not about to miss his chance to add to the conversation. Chewing? Not really his thing—at least not yet. But every now and then, he’ll mistakenly (and I’m sure he’d like that word emphasized) think the kids’ toys are part of his personal collection. Because, you know… if it’s on the floor, it’s fair game. Rodger is basically the full package—housebroken, friendly, handsome, and ready to be your built-in best friend for road trips, yard zoomies, and couch snuggles. He’s got just the right mix of “let’s do stuff” and “let’s nap” to keep life interesting without requiring you to quit your job to keep up with him. He’s sweet, loyal, and 100% convinced the world is full of potential friends who just haven’t met him yet. So, if you’re ready for a dog who will love you unconditionally, make you laugh daily, and occasionally side-eye you like he’s silently judging your life choices… Rodger’s your guy. All you have to do is fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can send it over to his foster family—because we don’t just hand over perfect dogs to anyone who asks. Then, you’ll need to make the journey to Broken Arrow, OK, to pick him up. Pack snacks, bring a leash, and prepare to meet the best decision you’ve ever made.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rodger, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
