Meet Ollie! Ollie is a 7-year old purebred American Hairless Terrier. Ollie grew up in the city but found that the hustle and bustle of city life just wasn’t his thing. Now that he is living a more laid back life in central MA with a fenced in yard, this brave little guy is blossoming into the most wonderful adventure partner. Seriously, he is down for anything! This little 25 lb potato has been living it up - he has gone swimming, hiking, kayaking, bouldering, he even traveled with his foster family up to Acadia National Park. He is currently on a weight loss journey and it is going well with all of his increased activity. He is completely housetrained and while he had never used a crate in the past, he is getting comfortable with one in his foster home. He gets along well with most dogs but doesn’t appreciate if they are too pushy. He communicates his feelings about this in an appropriate manner. He loves to snuggle with his two foster sisters. He also likes cats. :) He had a cat sibling in his former home and loved to play with him. Ollie gets a little nervous around children, so we would like to place him in a home where he will not encounter children regularly. As an American Hairless Terrier, Ollie has some unique care needs such as applying sunscreen and moisturizer. He does have some hair on the sides of his face (like sideburns!) and on his snout. He also has sparse wirey hairs along his back. As a nearly hairless fellow, he gets a little concerned (jealous? 😆) when he sees a large fluffy dog (think Husky, Akita, etc.) and may be reactive towards them. This was more of an issue in the city, but given more space, it hasn’t been an issue in his foster home. He is a big snuggler. His favorite place to be is on one of his human’s laps. He will also snuggle with his doggie friends. He likes to use larger dogs as his personal pillows. Due to the stress of his former city life, he does have a bite history. While it was a single, isolated incident, it will be important to always monitor his body language for discomfort and avoid potentially triggering situations like being in tight, enclosed spaces with strangers. Once you are one of his people though, he is loyal for life. It would be a challenge to find a pup that gets quite as happy to see you when you come home as Ollie does. If you are interested in finding out more about Ollie, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Ollie is being fostered in Shirley MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook! - Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal positive reinforcement dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ollie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
