My foster writes:Appa is a calm, sweet tortie who loves cheek rubs and pets. While she is quiet and nervous at first, she warms up to her owner, given lots of patience and gentle handling. Once she is brought out of her shell, she is warm, affectionate, and loves attention. She loves to rub herself around her new home and nuzzle her people :) Appa is an incredibly loving and warm cat who will bring so much joy to your life!Appa has made excellent improvement since her first assessment. She was in the cubby lying quietly, gave a single startled hiss when approached, but then relaxed and allowed all petting. She was easily coaxed onto the ledge in the main part of the kennel where she accepted and enjoyed petting, leaning in for cheek rubs. When a partial pick up was attempted, she pulled back suddenly, but then came down onto the main level of the kennel for squeeze up treats. She enjoyed even more petting and then was calm when picked up and held and remain so when set back down.Appa interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.A volunteer writes:Imagine being a pet for a number of years and suddenly find yourself, all alone in an apartment for one week after your owner left and then be confined to a kennel for an unknown length of time...Some cats are quite resilient, others have a very hard time to deal with their ordeal. This is the case of Appa, a four year old Tortie. For weeks, she stayed in her hide out, just coming out to eat and use her litter box, totally refusing to deal with shelter life and people. Then, as I was hoping for(Torties are bright cats), she decided that staying in hiding would not do her any good. I was so happy to see her coming forward to welcome me, accepting and seeking pets and even playing with a feather wand. That's my girl!!!Appa does not belong to a kennel. No pets does! Appa needs you, your care, your love and she will give back 100%. Appa is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center. What my friends at ACC say about me:I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. Primary Color: Tri Color Weight: 9.5 Age: 4yrs 2mths 2wks
