My story

Swiftie is a three-year-old Akita mix with a heart as big as her dreams. This beautiful girl spent her life in an outdoor pen, chained up and neglected. When she and her puppies were rescued, she was severely underweight and covered in fly bites. She’s already put on some much-needed weight, but still has a ways to go—and with care, comfort, and love, she’ll continue to thrive. Swiftie quickly took to the good life in her first foster home, where she discovered the magic of air conditioning and decided that being an indoor dog was definitely her style. She’s reportedly house-trained and keeps a clean run at the shelter. She loves outdoor time for play, sunbathing, and potty breaks, but she’s just as happy hanging out inside. This fun, happy girl is a big fan of toys—whether it’s a squeaky toy or a ball, she’s ready to play. She’s calm in the car and has done wonderfully with kids, including young children, showing great awareness and gentleness. She did well with the dog in her previous foster home, though her play style leans toward rough and tumble, so any dog introductions should be slow, structured, and closely supervised. Swiftie is a large-breed dog who still needs a little help with manners—like resisting the temptation to snag a chicken nugget off the table—can't really blame her! She’s heartworm positive and has already started treatment. Wish Bone will continue to provide treatment through our vet or by supplying the necessary medication for the adopter’s vet to administer. What Swiftie needs now is someone patient and kind, ready to show her what it means to be part of a family—for real this time. If you’re ready to help this resilient mama dog write her next chapter, Swiftie is more than ready for her love story to begin. Her minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.  She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
