My story

Meet Pawsh Spice, a sweet and sensitive 1-year-old Lab who is working hard to learn that the world isn’t such a scary place. With the help of her foster family, this gentle girl is slowly blossoming into her best self. Spice has done very well with house training and does great in an x-pen while her foster is away. She sleeps through the night (though she’s definitely an early riser!) and loves a good game of fetch in the yard. She’s recently started showing interest in playing with one of the resident dogs but mostly finds comfort just being near them rather than actively engaging. Affectionate and wiggly, Spice loves to stay close to her person. She’s still quite fearful of fast movements and loud or unexpected noises and startles easily, though she recovers quickly with a little reassurance. Because of her sensitivity, she would do best in a quieter home. She has met a few visitors and tends to bark a little at first, but she’s very treat motivated, which helps ease introductions. She’s also working on basic commands like “sit” and “off,” and reliably comes when called. Spice would thrive in a patient home where she can continue building confidence and trust. She’d be happy as a solo dog or with a calm resident pup to show her the ropes. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal companion with a heart of gold and so much potential, Spice might just be your girl. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area.
