My story

Sterling’s story started on the streets of southwest OKC, matted in pounds of dreadlocked fur and unsure if she could trust the world. But underneath all that was a beautiful, spirited girl just waiting for a second chance and thanks to a good samaritan, a willing rescue and a heroic groomer, she's finally getting one. Now cleaned up and safe, Sterling is learning what it means to be a beloved house dog. She's still a little wary when people approach her too quickly, but she warms up fast and is proving to be incredibly resilient. She’s sweet, smart, and full of energy—working hard on her basic commands like sit, down, and come. Sterling gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is curious (but respectful) around cats. Because she’s still learning manners and has a bouncy side, she’d do best in a home with older kids or kids comfortable with an enthusiastic dog who might jump up to say hello. Due to her time on the streets, she can be a bit protective over her meals around other dogs, but feeding her in her crate works perfectly. Sterling is ready for a home that will continue to show her that people can be kind, routines can be comforting, and love doesn’t have to be earned—it’s given freely. ##2480981##
