Jax came to ACCT Philly after his longtime owner could no longer meet his needs due to a demanding work schedule that kept him away for 10 to 12 hours each day. Originally found as a stray in late 2020, Jax was taken in as a temporary safe haven—but quickly became part of the family. After nearly five years in a loving home, this affectionate, energetic guy is now searching for a fresh start with someone who can give him the time, structure, and companionship he craves. Jax is a big, bouncy bundle of love who thrives on attention and physical affection. He's fully crate trained, mostly housebroken, and knows commands like sit, stay, and down. True to his playful spirit, Jax loves tug toys, rope toys, and chewing on durable bones, and he enjoys regular walks (though he does pull on leash). He’s made a strong first impression at the shelter, greeting staff with loose tail wags, a wiggly body, and an eagerness to engage. Volunteers describe him as easy to leash and unleash, tolerant of petting all over, and responsive to new people and experiences. Though he can be excitable when seeing other dogs, he's shown promising neutrality when walking past them—hinting that, with time and training, his social skills could blossom. Jax would thrive with a family who can provide structured enrichment and consistent engagement. He’s a lovable dog who just wants to be included—and with a little patience, he’s ready to be someone’s best buddy all over again. We walked calmly through the kennels and Jax’s pace was moderately slow. He walked straight and steady and laid little attention to his handler. Back at the shelter and in the run, Jax sniffed the perimeter and largely ignored me. He did not respond to “treats” but kept sniffing. When I sat or got closer to his level, Jax engaged with me and approached for pets. He tolerated pets on his head, back and butt with butt rubs seemingly his favorite as he wiggled and hung out for more (see video). Jax chased a tennis ball with a small jump, followed then by a body wipe out in the dirt, but Jax got back on his feet like nothing happened and kept exploring the run (see video). He took treats very nicely. Jax did not sit on command the first time for treats, but did the second time. He walked calmly back to his kennel although his breathing was elevated with some panting. He stepped in on his own and took a few final treats nicely after refreshing his water. Really nice dog. Such a pleasure! 08/07/2025 Per Volunteer: Jax is a big boy who loves to lean! He’s super easy to work with on a leash and seems to be house trained. He didn’t have much interest in treats or toys, but was content to hang out for some scratches and head pats. Good dude. 08/06/2025 Staff Behavioral Eval: Kennel Presentation: Approaching the kennel, loose tail wags, ears slightly back, barking and whining. Leash Skills: Easy to leash, pulls minimally. Sociability: Approached loosely for pets, allowed pets all over back, head, and sides. Tail wags and soft eyes. Play: Shows interest in Toys, chasing after and playing tug with plushy toys. Jumping and excited Dog Interaction: No change in body language when other dogs were around outside of yard. Kept loose body overall. Return to Kennel: No issues returning to kennel, pulling only slightly, went into kennel on his own, with no hesitation. Easy to unleash. Color Level: Green Recommendations and considerations: None at this time, other than could use more social interactions with dogs for further assessment, and more physical activity as he appears over weight.
