My story

Meet Bella! Remember Pablo and deaf Luigi, father and inbred brother/son Maltese/Jack Russell terriers we had last year? Well we finally got their sister-wife-mom 😳 This sweet 5 1/2 year old had been suffering from a severe painful itchy chronic ear infection for at least several months. Her owners “tried everything” to treat it besides taking her to an actual vet for medication. It was extremely painful and itchy, with infection spreading to the skin on the side of her face also. It’s amazing what a visit to a real vet will do, and she’s looking and feeling so much better already. She has some chronic underlying skin allergies likely that set off the whole ordeal so will need someone to stay on top of that, an allergy food trial and periodic cleaning and treatments likely once we get her through this crisis. She’s a darling little girl, so in tune with her people we were told she used to alert her owner when they were about to have a seizure or medical crisis. She gets along with other small dogs but likes to yell at big dogs when she sees them walking, and is used to wee wee pads but will go outside in a fenced yard when taken out. Under 15lbs full grown, spayed now to prevent future breeding (and inbreeding 🤦‍♀️ 🪕- she has had 2 litters of pups with her brother, many of which died and the survivors were born deaf) If you can make sure she gets regular vet visits and is never allowed to suffer untreated again, email njwoof@cs.com to meet Bella in Northern NJ Almost all the dogs we have taken in lately have required extensive and immediate vet care and our bills are double what they normally are 😱. Please consider a donation to help us get through this terrible summer shelter crisis Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bella, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
