My story

Meet Groot! Your Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold! 5 Years Old | 110 lbs | Rottweiler | MaleIf you’re looking for brains, brawn, and a whole lot of heart, Groot might just be your perfect match. This big, lovable boy is a gentle powerhouse who’s turning heads and winning hearts in training with his smarts, focus, and goofball charm.Groot is the kind of dog that makes an impression—not just because of his size, but because of his incredible ability to learn, adapt, and connect with people. His trainers can’t say enough about his progress: he’s rocking his leash manners, mastering impulse control, and blowing everyone away with his recall skills (even in high-distraction environments!). He’s shown he knows how to play by the rules, whether it’s tug with structure or polite greetings with new dogs. He’s even learning to ignore toys and treats until given the go-ahead—pretty impressive for a big guy who loves his rewards! In social settings, Groot is eager to engage and make friends. He’s currently practicing polite play while on-leash with other dogs and improving every day. He can be a little too enthusiastic for some pups at first (we get it—he’s 110 pounds of wiggle and joy), but he’s learning to match energy levels and take things slow.Groot’s also a star when it comes to working in new spaces—settling calmly in unfamiliar areas, checking in with his handler, and demonstrating the kind of confidence and trust that only comes from solid training and a strong bond. Whether he’s lounging by your side, sprinting to a treat target, or showing off his place command while you walk away, Groot is focused, motivated, and eager to please. He’s got a few quirks—like jumping onto anything he thinks looks cool—but he listens beautifully to verbal cues and is learning to think before leaping. Groot would do best with someone who understands big dogs and appreciates a working mind. If you’re active, consistent, and looking for a loyal sidekick who’ll give you everything he’s got (and then some), Groot is ready to be your partner in crime, adventure buddy, and cuddle companion all in one. Smart, playful, eager to learn Thrives with structure and training A big dog with a bigger heartAre you Groot’s person? He’s ready to meet you.Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in adopting a CAWS pet, please fill out an online application at http://caws.org/adoption-application.
