My story

Animal Profile:  Georgie came to the shelter as part of a group of dogs after his previous owner was arrested.  He is a dachshund mix (best guess) who is estimated to be around 4 years old and weighs ~15lbs. While the rest of the group has already found loving homes, this gentle soul is still waiting for his turn.  Though shy and unsure in the kennel, Georgie quickly shows his affectionate sides once he's outside and transforms into a total lap dog.  He's  ready for a second chance and we’re ready to give that to him here in the PNW!  Foster Update:  This half pint huddled in his crate the first 24 hours in our care. But after just 72 hours we began seeing his fun loving, happy personality emerge.  Georgie has done great in his crate and is house trained. It was clear on our first walk that he had virtually no leash experience. We started small (short walks up and down our street), gradually working on position, confidence and building up distance. He’s doing great and happily dons his leash for his daily walk. He is not exhibiting any leash aggression, although he is timid and can be a bit skittish with loud noises, the unexpected passing truck or barking dog. Consistency and exposure will surely help him master the leash and make him an enjoyable walking partner.  He does have some puppy tendencies, which we work on daily (nibbling on shoe strings and a little jumping). To date, he’s only barked once, announcing visitors entering the house. He was hesitant with the new people but definitely curious and settled quickly. Again, exposure and confidence should ease his tension with strangers. (He has engaged successfully with my neighbors, gladly accepting their praise and affection.)  Georgie will fit into a variety of lifestyles. He has good energy and, don’t let his little legs fool you! He could definitely hike and keep up with most any other dog on the trail. He would also be fine in a lower energy household as his favorite place is on a blanket at my feet (in all honesty, he’d probably prefer the couch). Older children should be fine (8+). Toddlers are discouraged due to his occasional jumping and nibbling.  We can’t wait to find the perfect family for Georgie. His happy personality and enthusiasm for just about everything will be a great addition to any home.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, recent exam with a veterinarian, and microchip with lifetime registration. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.  Apply Online: www.DogGoneSeattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: This dog was rescued from Stanilaus Modesto in California, arriving to foster care in Seattle on 7/23 via START. This dog will be available for adoption in the greater Seattle area once evaluated in foster care. August 6, 2025, 3:52 pm
