Meet Hera (Justice) Hera, also named Justice (long story) Is a purebred Belgian Malinois. She comes with all the stuff you would expect with a Mal. That said, she is also fearful. Drive + Fear = complicated girlie. I have been working with her for a while now, one very specific things, while her adoring staff at the RISPCA has been working on getting her good time out of her kennel, play yard time, and bond building. She is quirky, has trouble in the car, with touch, and meeting/trusting some new people. But all in all, she is a spectacular dog. Honestly, if I felt I could meet her physical stimulation needs I would adopt her in a second. As with any working breed, she will need both mental and physical stimulation. She suffered some trauma so will also need someone with patience and a gentle hand to help her gain as much confidence as she can to live the most comfortable life. A helper dog may be in order, though her dog sociability is still up for debate at this time. I would like to see someone with experience or a very good knowledge about what it will take to meet the needs of a Mal. She is not drivey enough to be a full time working dog with bite work, and I am working to lower drive while maintaining her mental stim needs. She's a smartie pants, and she knows it! This is not to say you must be experience with owning a Mal, but I would expect someone who has at least done their homework, is able to get her out and about or hire someone to do so. Please email me at heather@obhounds.com for info, or hit the contact us tab at handsomedansrescue.org. You can also contact Hugh at the RISPCA, another of her cheerleaders. It's worth noting the the RISPCA also has a male Mal, around Hera's age, who is more confident, but also has more drive. He would do well in dog sports etc. Maybe Hera will too, but we need to get her a little less fearful first.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hera, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
