My story

Palmer is fostered in Dennison, IL.   This quirky, handsome fellow is Palmer.  He’s the total package: looks, brains, and heart.  He truly just wants to love deeply and be loved.  At only 40 pounds, he’s a great size for walks, hikes, runs, car rides, barn hunts, and more! Palmer loves…well, almost everything!  He is full of zeal and joie de vivre!  You can’t help but smile with this guy and his antics.  Zoomies and laps around the play yard are just the start.  He rolls in blankets and tall grass alike – enjoying the moment.  He appreciates a private doggy pool for cooling off, but a pond will do just as well. He really loves using his nose to find treats hidden in the grass or inside treat balls.  He prefers his meals in a slow feeder or puzzle bowl.  It challenges his big brain and slows down the gobbling of food.  He isn’t a fan of hard chewy treats but prefers soft chews or stuffe*d toys to pack around.  Balls are for catching, not chasing.  He will catch and return all day, but he’s not so good at plain fetch.  At only six years old, he has lots of love left to give. Palmer is food driven. (Aren’t we all?)  He wants to please but will literally learn anything you ask in return for treats…even his kibble presented as such. This food drive makes giving his monthly prevention a dream.  Toss it to him!  Done! Palmer's ideal home would love a home with a professional back and belly scratcher. Physical contact is essential for this lover boy.  Bonus points if this professional also has a large couch for cuddles and naps. He also enjoys using his voice to talk about his day.  His perfect home won’t mind listening to the stories he has tell. However, Palmer is not a big fan of the cats at his foster home.  While he isn’t mean to them, he is interested enough to want to track them down to investigate.  He has not been around small children while in rescue and can take a little bit to warm up to new adults (but he’s doing much better). Palmer enjoys gentle, frequent brushing and tolerates the more intense deshedding brushing.  He isn’t fond of toe nail trims, but with encouragement and more belly scratches, he allows the procedure.  Treats of peanut butter or other pastes to distract him during the grooming are ticket if you’re working alone. All of this awesome energy has one drawback...Palmer still pulls a bit on leash because it holds him back from even more adventures!  When first starting a walk, he pulls until he remembers the leash manners he’s been working on.  He has improved greatly since coming into rescue, but he will still need a firm but kind person to continue making progress.  He would benefit from other chances to practice his impulse control.  Are you ready for pure joy in living wrapped in a fur coat?!  Palmer could be your boy Palmer is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2407603##
