My story

To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Maki is a 1 year old female cat up to date on vaccinations. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her:    How would you describe the cat's general personality? Maki is a work in progress. She's shy and introverted. But she's trying hard to let down her guard to accept the love she knows she deserves. She's very quiet, and spends her days sleeping under a bed or sitting in a window. In the evenings, she'll come out to eat dinner play with her foster parents (from a distance), chase the laser dot. Each night she sits a little bit closer.   Does the cat like to play? Yes, she will chase a toy mouse on a wand and the red laser dot. When she's alone in a room, I can hear her running around and playing with a toy mouse. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Wands, laser dot, Cat Dancer, toy mice.   How vocal is the cat? She is very quiet, except for a small grunt when playing, and occasional purring. We have never hear her meow.  What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She purred when she first met another foster cat. If you get too close, she will give a small hiss.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, she occasionally uses the cat scratcher, but seems to prefer the rug. It seems like she might like a small natural fiber rug that she can use. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, she's very good with the litter box, no accidents. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  She only will eat hard food. She's eating a mix of Acana, Iams (both indoor formula chicken/turkey), and a little Fancy Feast. She does not seem to like wet food or even gravy tubes. She is good about drinking water.   Is the cat picky about food? Somewhat. When she first came here, she would not eat the fancy freeze-dried food, so we tried different things. She loved the Fancy Feast, but we're mixing it with some higher-quality brands and she seems happy with that. What is the cat's favorite treat? She was previously at a shelter and they said she loves treats, but so far she doesn't seem interested in them.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No--she's never come close enough to swat. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?  No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?  No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  Fearful.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  She is trying to be friends with the male cat we are fostering, but he is not warming up to her. I think she's very lonely and would do well with a kitten or cat needing love and affection.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  She seems very sweet, but is so withdrawn, she can't be her true self yet. She is coming out of her shell bit by bit. If someone is willing to respect her boundaries, and put in the time to draw her out, she could be a lovely, quiet pet.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? It's been about a month, and she's still not yet relaxed around us. We give her space, speak to her encouraging when she comes out and try to engage her with a toy. She is making progress though!
