My story

Name, age, breed: Rouge, 1yr, Lab mixLikes: Going for walks, learning new treats, attentionDislikes: Other animals/people around her food & toysWhat would be the ideal home? An experienced home that will understand Rouge`s guarding behaviours (toys & food). She does get along with other dogs, but we do recommend an only pet home due to the guarding. Rouge would love a home that can continue her training!Good with other cats? NoGood with dogs? Yes, but would recommend an only pet homeGood with children? Possibly, but would recommend an only adult home due to guarding behaviourTemperament: Sweet, but shy to start. Rouge takes some time to earn peoples trust. A slow introduction is always recommended with new people. Motivators? Toys, treats, kibbleAny commands? Sit, Drop it (if trading for a different toy/treat)House trained? UnknownCrate trained? UnknownHow long will it take to settle into a new environment? 3-3-3 rule: First 3 days - Your dog may be overwhelmed and may hide, have a lack of appetite, or test boundaries. Give them space and time to adjust in a quiet room with their bed, food, water, and toys. 3 weeks - Your dog may start to settle in and their personality will emerge. You can expect behavior issues to arise, so set boundaries and expectations with positive reinforcement training. 3 months - Your dog should be comfortable and acclimated to your home. They should know their routine and expect meals and enrichment at specific times.Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? As Rouge doesn`t love being handled by strangers, Rouge is practicing her muzzle training for veterinarians to be able to examine her.If you think Rouge is the one for you - fill out an application today!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rouge, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
