My story

Meet Starr ⭐️ She’s beauty. She’s grace. And her smile? Buckle up. It’s so good, we’ve considered entering her in pageants. Or politics. One look and you'll be voting her into your heart, your home, and probably your bed (she is a cuddle enthusiast, after all). Basically, Starr is a happy-go-lucky ray of fluff who will charm the socks off anyone within a ten-foot radius. Proceed with caution — prolonged exposure may cause spontaneous smiling, increased tail-wagging, and accidental adoption. Starr is the sweetest little starlet this side of the fluffiverse. At just 8 months old and 51 lbs, Starr is a Great Pyrenees mix with all the heart and half the hair. Seriously — if you've ever dreamed of having a Pyr but without the “living with a snowdrift” commitment, she might just be your unicorn. She's sleek, she's stunning, and she's got a smile that could melt the polar ice caps. Starr is a happy-go-lucky girl who walks through life with a wag in her step and love to spare. She's smaller than your average Pyr, with shorter hair and a lower-maintenance coat, but still full of that classic Pyr charm and loyalty (plus a little extra sparkle in the grin department). Starr was recently returned to us after a disagreement over a bone with the resident dog. With a young child in the home, her family felt it was safest to bring her back to us — and now Starr is hoping for a fresh start with someone who gets it. Because let’s be honest… how many of us are willing to share our food? Our French fries? Our favorite blanket? Or the look we give someone when they so much as touch our phone? Exactly. So while Starr may still be working on her “sharing is caring” skills, she’s still the best girl — full of love, sweetness, and that irresistible Pyr charm. Starr isn’t exactly handing out friendship bracelets the second she walks into the dog park. She’s more of a “give me a minute to assess the situation” type. Shy at first, sure—but once she decides you’re not terrifying, she’s down for a good romp. She especially enjoys the company of smaller dogs (probably because they don’t try to steal her spotlight), but she holds her own with pups her size or a bit bigger too, as long as everyone remembers basic social etiquette… like not body-slamming her mid-zoomie. As for kids? Her former family had them, and she thought they were great. Sticky fingers, loud giggles, snack trails—what’s not to love? She hasn’t been around tiny humans in her current foster home, but if history tells us anything, she’s probably still pro-kid. She hasn’t been cat-tested yet, so we can’t say for sure how she’d feel about feline roommates—but given her sweet, cautious nature, it’s entirely possible she’d treat them with quiet curiosity or just pretend they don’t exist. You know, like the rest of us when the group chat gets too active. When it comes to people, Starr is a little slow to warm up at first. She may give a bark or a low grumble to let you know she’s unsure—but give her a minute, let her sniff you, and maybe offer her a treat or two (she’s not above a bribe), and you’ll see her whole demeanor shift. Once she knows you’re safe, she’s all in—full body wiggles, joyful jumps, and that megawatt smile that could melt even the iciest heart. Starr’s energy level is a sweet 6 out of 10—think baby deer meets golden retriever. She’s the kind of pup who starts off cautious, quietly observing like she’s waiting for the Yelp reviews on life to come in. But once she decides you’re safe (and preferably armed with snacks), her goofy, bouncy side comes shining through like sunshine on a squeaky clean window. She’s not quite sure yet if she’s a thrill-seeking adventurer or a dedicated nap connoisseur, but she seems to enjoy dabbling in both. One minute she’s galloping around the yard like she’s got places to be, and the next she’s curled up in a corner, out cold in her favorite nap pose—usually mid-flop, mid-sigh, mid-melt-your-heart. Her temperament is a gentle mix of happy-go-lucky sweetness with a touch of tender sensitivity. She’s still learning the world isn’t as scary as it sometimes seems, and yes, random noises or changes in routine might spook her—but once she’s comfortable? Pure joy. She’ll play, bounce, run, and charm everyone in sight with her signature smile and soft-hearted nature. She’s got a heart as big as her puppy eyes, and she’s just looking for someone kind and steady to help her grow into all the greatness we know she holds. She’s a dog’s dog for sure—loves playing with her furry friends and thrives on canine companionship—but she also has a strong appreciation for the art of the nap. If “play hard, nap harder” was a lifestyle brand, she’d be their poster pup. Starr would do best with a securely fenced yard where she can stretch her legs and gain confidence at her own pace. Apartment life isn’t totally out of the question, but she’d need someone committed to helping her get used to the leash and the bustling world outside her comfort zone. She’s a little soft, a little silly, and a whole lot of lovely—and once she trusts you, she’ll gift you with the kind of love that only a once-in-a-lifetime dog can give. Potty trained? You bet. Starr knows where the bathroom is and prefers not to make it your problem. One gold star, right there. As for the kennel… well, let’s just say she will go in, and she will lay down, but she also firmly believes that everyone within a five-mile radius should be aware that she’s been imprisoned. She doesn’t try to escape like some canine Houdini — no, she’s more of a dramatic soprano. Think less “quietly settling in for a nap” and more “emotional ballad about the betrayal of being left alone.” And her barking? It’s not constant, but let’s just say she has opinions. If something startles her, she’s going to let you know. New people, new dogs, suspicious shadows? All worthy of a few barks to keep everyone in the loop. It’s not excessive, it’s just her way of saying, “Excuse me, but did anyone else see that terrifying Amazon box on the porch?” If you’ve made it this far and you’re already picturing that sweet, goofy grin greeting you at the door—go ahead and fill out that adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app. All Starr needs now is her person. Someone patient, kind, and ready to cheer her on as she finds her confidence and leans into all the love she has to give. If that sounds like you, the next step is easy: just fill out an adoption application and plan a little road trip to Oklahoma City, OK.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Starr, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
