My story

Meet Coco Chanel (because anything this pretty has two names) 6 years old • 15 lbs • Pomeranian Coco is a breathtakingly beautiful 6-year-old Pomeranian with a golden coat and a cautious heart. Rescued from a puppy mill, she’s still learning that people can be safe. Right now, she prefers to keep at least five feet of space between herself and her foster mom, though she’s beginning to feel a little more comfortable. She’ll now pass by a human without panicking and will sometimes creep up to sniff a hand—then quickly retreat. Coco has not been touched or picked up, as she becomes visibly panicked when anyone approaches too closely. She is very skittish and needs time, space, and a calm environment to continue healing. She’s not leash trained or house trained, and she’s still figuring out where it’s okay to pee—sometimes choosing her food bowl or enrichment toys, likely a behavior carried over from years of confinement in the mill. She does best with a routine and another small, calm dog to help guide her. Coco will need to be adopted into a home that already has a small dog companion. She does not bark unnecessarily, but she will bark if left completely alone, so she’s not suited to apartment living or long stretches of isolation. Despite everything, Coco has shown glimmers of trust—she naps in the same room as her foster mom and watches the household quietly from her chosen safe spots. She isn’t ready for cuddles, but she is ready for safety, routine, and respect. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
