My story

To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Bruce is a sweet 2 year old black cat. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Bruce is a bright and charming young man with a bit of a wild side. He's always up for a snuggle and a scratch on his big chubby cheeks. He appreciates a good windowsill to check out birds and scare off strangers. But when he hits the cat nip a little too hard--watch out!   Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, Bruce is very affectionate and loves pets and being brushed or combed. He has a gorgeous black shiny coat that we have been brushing regularly to keep it gleaming!   If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Pretty much all over.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He likes belly rubs, but only briefly. I've tried rubbing his paws to warm up to a pedicure, but he doesn't like that much (yet).   Does the cat come on your lap? Yes, he'll jump up and visit for a while, but not for long.   Does the cat like to be held? Yes, I can pick him up and carry him around, he seems to think it's fun.   Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, the first night with us he jumped up on the bed, and likes sleeping at the foot of the bed every night. However, if he gets late-night zoomies, he might pounce our feet or get overly playful and try to play-bite.   Does the cat seek your attention? He does, he'll sometimes follow us around and likes to see what's going on. But sometimes, he likes a quiet nap under the bed.   Does the cat like to play? He isn't the most playful, but enjoys a bit of playtime each day.   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Bruce likes any toys on wands, the Cat Dancer, and chasing the laser dot. He loves the cat nip banana but freaks out almost too much and will scratch anything that moves around him, so watch your arms and legs if you give him cat nip.   How vocal is the cat? He's on the quiet side, but will meow in anticipation of feeding time.   What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Occasional meows, quiet purrs, and growls when he sees people or cats outside or hears people or dogs in the hallway.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. We have a cardboard scratcher and a taller sisal one. He prefers the cardboard one and shredding the paper, so have a back-up. Does the cat always use the litter box? He's very good about using the litter box--no accidents.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  Bruce has a healthy appetite. He grazes on hard food during the day, and gets soft food for breakfast and dinner. For hard food, he's eating a mix of Acana and Iams indoor chicken/turkey flavor.  For wet food, Weruva brand, he seems to like shredded chicken the best. Is the cat picky about food? Not at all What is the cat's favorite treat? Squeezable tubes, Greenies, Temptations   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?  Only when he's being playful--usually at night when he gets the zoomies. Or he'll swat at my leg when I walk by. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes, after playing with cat nip, he gets into a frenzy. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes, he attacks feet under the covers, and will sometimes try to bite my elbows or hands when I'm trying to sleep. We have been saying "NO" loudly and locking him out of the bedroom when he does this. It's all playful and not aggressive, but it can hurt! After sometime, he'll cry at the door to come back in, and most nights, he will get back on the foot of the bed and behave. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  At first he will be very shy and hide. If he hears people in the hall or sees someone walking outside, he growls. So, it takes him a little time to adjust to new people, but within 24 hours in our home, he was very relaxed and comfortable with us. He's a bit nervous of loud noises outside, the blender, vacuum, etc.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He seems to have a very strong bond with my husband. He will follow him around, weaving between his legs, and cuddle at bedtime. He's in a foster home with another young cat. At first he seemed eager to get close to her, but now he plays it cool. They will sit near each other on the same carpet in the evenings, but otherwise they mind their own business. So, as long as the other cat is not too territorial, he'd be fine in a house with another cat.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Bruce has a nice balance of all the traits you'd want in a cat--affectionate, but not needy--social, but likes his downtime under the bed--playful but not constantly jumping around. He'd fit in well with a couple, solo-owner, or family with kids over 10, who can handle when he play scratches/bites (which he may grow out of). A quiet home without too many visitors would be best for him. Bruce is sweet and loving and will make an excellent companion in the right home.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Just the aforementioned enthusiasm on catnip when he gets too playful or we're trying to sleep.
