My story

We had a tragic intake of cats at the end of July, a man was found deceased in his home by his sister. Inside the home were a total of 14 cats…. One set of a mom and her kittens had recently been taken in by the deceased but the remaining 10 cats were ALL fully vetted, healthy, happy house cats. At the shelter, some are easy to handle and outgoing but several of them are simply terrified due to the shock of losing their caretaker after spending their whole lives in a home, cared for lovingly by their big hearted, devoted dad. Taking in 14 cats in one day into an already overwhelmed shelter has been a challenge to say the least. But this owner was a dear friend of the shelter – we knew him well and this man loved his cats. What better way to honor his memory than to find them all a safe place to land! One was already adopted on 7/26! Mom and kittens are getting sterilized 7/31 and then will be ready for adoption. The others came to us already altered and vaccinated. Some of these cats are seniors which may make them hard to place, and several of them are so terrified, we haven’t been able to fully evaluate them. But today, we are trying to get them the extra attention they need to find homes, to honor their devoted cat dad! Adoption fees are waived, but we do ask for a donation in the amount of your choice be made in honor of their dearly departed dad.HSNBA lists all animals online from the moment of intake, and our listings are updated automatically every midnight. Some of these animals may not be available for adoption at this moment, but you can always call the shelter at 830-629-5287 for clarification on the adoption process or the animal's current status.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mae the Stray (Carroll Mom), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
