My story

Please read entire bio before you reply. For adoption in northern Colorado only. We are asking for a lot more for Leroy than we usually do for our rescues because he is extra special to us so I'm sorry for the extra hoops.... We are looking for a very special home for Leroy. We require that you own your home, have a good fenced in yard. That you are very active and want to do things with him like hiking, exploring, maybe working with him on tracking for fun. We would like him to go to a person or family that can give him a lot of attention and we would prefer that he is the only dog in the home but we might let him go to another home that has one large female if it's a match on both sides. If you're approved to adopt, we do require a home check and an update at least once a month for the first year and then after that at least a few times a year. Now to tell you about Leroy! He will be 4 years old in August. He is a very goofy and funny guy! He is full of southern charm! If you take him to the hardware store or the brewery he is a major hit everywhere you go, people stop in their tracks to come see him and he absolutely loves all the attention, he is great with all people and very outgoing!!! He will wear outfits lol, he'll wear Christmas attire, hats, overalls you name it. He is loving and sleeps in the bed but would also be okay on a comfy dog bed but good luck teaching him that he can't get in the bed! He is a bloodhound so he has a high prey drive, not good with chickens and bunnies. He's not great with farm animals like pigs, goats, sheep, he definitely wont kill one but he likes to nip at them through the fence. He doesn't like male dogs much but can tolerate some for short periods. He gets along great with almost all female dogs but he does sometimes resource guard food from other dogs and he has started fights before over food and bones, sometimes just while you're preparing dinner. So I usually I leave him outside while I'm preparing dinner and then bring him in once it's ready, as long as it's ready and he's not waiting for his food he can eat with 5 other dogs in the kitchen just fine but I want him to go to a home where he will be a success. He is a very special dog. He's very healthy and up to date on vet and neuter. His only annoying habit is he absolutely loves to dig in the backyard more than anything! This will definitely improve if he's not bored and gets enough exercise and activities to stimulate him, which is currently his problem, he needs a lot more enrichment and attention. He can also be a big lazy boy and likes to stay in the air conditioning when it's really hot. He is very smart and knows how to open the sliding glass door only from the outside if it's not locked. Email if interested and tell me about yourself. He is extremely special to us. Thank you!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Leroy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
