Cassian is a one-of-a-kind boy with a list of quirks as long as his hair. First of all, Cassian is extremely people-focused. He will follow you from room to room like a little shadow. He always wants to be where the action is, even if that’s the bathroom.... He really feels most secure when he knows where you are and can put eyes on you. So if you’ve ever wanted a constant companion, he can’t be beat. Just watch below your feet! Cassian is also hypervocal and comes with a nonstop commentary track: he meows when he’s touched, when he sees food, when he thinks you might be thinking of food, or when you just look at him funny. When he first arrived in foster care, he took a while to learn that nighttime was quiet time, but he has settled in and quieted down with time (thankfully). Cassian is also food motivated to a hilarious degree. Meal time is his favorite time. And he is yet to meet a cat-safe food he won’t eat. For example, he loves sharing a spoon of peanut butter with the dogs in his foster home. Because of his “adventurous” culinary tastes Cass will sometimes let out a nervous little toot when you pick him up… just one more of his long list of quirks. Even though Cass is obsessed with people and wants to be wherever they are, he’s not quite a lap cat (at least not yet). He will stay close and will choose a cozy spot near you whenever you sit down, and if you're lucky he'll snuggle up right beside you. He does respond well to physical affection too, but only if you know how he likes it. His chubby cheeks are the sweet spot, and he will melt if you give them a good long scratch. If you pet him in the wrong spot though, he’ll let you know with a “love bite.” (Don’t worry, they’re soft and harmless.) Cass has a playful streak that will come out sometimes too. His favorites are small soft toys (like stuffed mice or balls) that he can chase. He can even play fetch with himself by throwing his toys into the air and chasing them. Cass is also weirdly cool with dogs. He coexists peacefully with other cats and would definitely choose their company over being alone, but I think his tier ranking would be people first, dogs second, cats third. He will take any company he can get though. Cassian is also FIV positive. Understanding of FIV has changed significantly over the years, and we now know that most cats with FIV live long and healthy lives without issue. FIV is not transferable to any other cats in the home, except through serious deep-tissue bites (typically only seen in unneutered feral cats). FIV can weaken a cat’s immune system, which means that Cassian may be slightly more susceptible to illnesses (like upper respiratory infections) over time. That said, he has been in his foster home for months without any medical issues. You can check out this resource if you’d like to learn more about FIV: https://www.humaneworld.org/en/all-animals/fiv-positive-cats If you look closely at Cass’s pictures, you’ll also notice he has a unique left eye. He has a rare genetic condition called coloboma that has absolutely zero health implications and just means that his iris didn’t form properly when he was in the womb. Just add it to the long list of quirks and oddities that define this sweet boy! Cassian truly is a unique boy who wants nothing more than a safe home and companionship. If you’re looking for a clingy, goofy, lovable companion who wants to be involved in everything, Cassian might just be your perfect match.
