My story

Meet Sky, a 3-year-old Shih Tzu mix with a big personality and a lot of love to give. This sweet, playful girl was surrendered when her owner’s daughter developed allergies, but she’s ready to find a new family to call her own. Sky is the best mix of cuddly and spunky—she’s loving, energetic, and always ready to play. She’s lived with both cats and kids and done great, and she’s been friendly when meeting other dogs too. She’s house trained and well-mannered in the home, but she can get a little vocal when left alone, so she might not be the best fit for apartment living unless your neighbors are understanding. If you’re looking for a cheerful, affectionate companion who’s ready for snuggles and playtime, Sky might just be your girl. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
