Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, meet & greets are scheduled with approved applications. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. Beastie came into rescue with her sister, Blakely. They were part of a large-scale rescue where a breeder went out of business & all the dogs were dispersed among many rescues. While she will be shy at first, she has shown us that after a few days she warms up. Everything is very new & scary right now. She needs a bit to absorb this fantastic new life she has been given. We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Beastie will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for her. This area will be a part of the home where she can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where she can play, lounge, or nap when her family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. Beastie will wear a harness, but she will not walk on one yet, and she definitely will not do her potty business while on a leash. Since she will be expected to potty outside immediately upon coming to her new home, we must place realistic expectations on what her "safe yard" will look like. If you do not have a physical fence, a large sized, sturdy x-pen will be fine to allow her to do her business outside. You must also have the patience & dedication to properly train her to walk & potty on a leash. If you have a fence you will need to make sure any gap is fixed/secured. An aluminum or slat type of fencing might need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through. However, no puppy should ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER EVER. Beastie is working on potty training. It is a process that will require commitment & patience, as puppies have a little puppy bladder. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Beastie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
