My story

How this pet arrived: Rufus was brought in by his previous owner on July 22, 2025.Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Rufus, a big boy with an even bigger heart. This extra-large gentleman is looking for a calm and cozy home where he can truly thrive. He's lived peacefully with respectful cats and dogs in the past, but these days, Rufus would really prefer to be your one and only. Due to a history of litter box issues, he needs a low-stress environment-no young children, no loud noises, and no hustle or bustle. His favorite hobby? Lounging on the back of the sofa for long, lazy birdwatching sessions. Medically, Rufus is on the mend but will need a little extra care. He experienced an acute kidney injury on 7/21/25 and responded well to supportive treatment. However, follow-up labs showed some possible permanent kidney changes, and he's now considered to have chronic kidney disease. He's currently eating a prescription kidney diet, and we recommend continuing to monitor his health with your veterinarian after adoption. Rufus is also on a weight loss journey to help keep him feeling his best-slow and steady wins the race, especially when it comes to feline wellness! At his current size, Rufus may require a team lift-and you'll definitely want to bring an extra-large cat carrier when it's time to take him home. But make no mistake, this king-sized cuddle buddy is all about the quiet life: one couch, one human, and a whole lot of lounging. If you're looking for a mellow, affectionate companion who's ready to be the center of your universe, Rufus is your guy.
