My story

My favorite pastime is being visually admired! Pet me with your eyes!Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.I would do best in a home with only adult humans.A volunteer writes: What worked perfectly yesterday might not work the same today. Just ask Spoon who spent weeks in her cubby, trying her best to pass the day without being noticed. Spoon was left on the bench outside the shelter in a carrier, so she spent some time collecting her thoughts and wasn't particularly open to visitors. I was delighted to see Spoon's improvement. Now sitting on top of her den calling out to people and stretching her paws out toward the door, she hopped to the front and, tucking her head into her chest and into my hand, she leaned forward. With her new interest in interacting with us, her interests are predictably wide ranging and varied. Spoon didn't seem entirely sure on what she should do. Did she want to play or snuggle? Snack or stretch? Opportunities abound with just a little bit more openness. Spoon's continuing to do her best as she waits to meet you at the Manhattan Care Center.
