Joey, recently pulled from a shelter, was listed as a collie, but he seems too small to be a rough collie and too stocky to be a border collie plus he does not exhibit border collie characteristics. He seems to us to be a cross between an Australian Sheperd and an English Sheperd. This gorgeous tricolor fella is full of energy and a fenced yard would be a plus. He walks well on a leash, even though he pulls a bit and rides well in the car. He is a little thin at 35 pounds, which is what he weighed at the shelter, but we are working on getting a little more weight on him. He probably should weigh between 40 and 45 pounds. He gets along well with other dogs and he loves to play with them, but he seems to be more of a people dog, as he will leave the play to enjoy human companionship. Joey was picked up as a stray and is 3-5 years old according to our vet. Joey has been neutered, microchipped and is up to date on vaccinations. Unfortunately, Joey did test heartworm positive and is starting on the doxycycline slow kill protocol. His adoption donation is $450 which includes the $165 transport fee. Joey is being fostered in Arkansas. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Joey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
