My story

Meet Zero, a 3-year-old Chihuahua-Shih Tzu mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart for his people. Zero is a friendly, playful, and affectionate little guy who loves meeting new folks and soaking up attention. Whether it's playtime or cuddle time, he’s always ready to be part of the fun. Zero was surrendered when a shift in his owner’s lifestyle made it too hard to care for him, but he clearly came from a loving home. He’s done well living with a toddler and thrives on human connection. Zero needs some help with his house training so patience will be needed. Zero hasn’t spent time with other dogs, so we’re not sure how he’ll feel about canine companions just yet. But if you're looking for a loyal little buddy who’s eager to be your sidekick, Zero might be your perfect match. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
