My story

Meet Dixie - currently fostered in Baltimore, MD With soulful eyes and a buttery cream coat, Dixie is a gentle, 60-pound beauty just beginning to explore the world. Around 2 years old, she’s shy and a tad cautious, but her sweet, quiet presence speaks volumes. She’s ready to bloom and we see her appearing more and more each day. Energy & Personality Dixie is laid back and calm. She’s still nervous in new situations but deeply curious. She doesn’t seek the spotlight, preferring to quietly observe or stay close to her people. Her tender nature and quiet resilience are deeply endearing. Training & Behavior Leash walks are difficult for Dixie - she tends to pancake or freeze when unsure, and busy outdoor settings overwhelm her. A fenced yard is ideal while she builds confidence. She hasn’t had accidents indoors but may be holding it due to nerves. She’s crate trained, non-destructive, and has just started to show interest in toys and bones. She’s only mildly food motivated, and progress will take time and patience. Social Life Dixie does well with other dogs. She coexists peacefully and has gently played with her foster sibling - the first dog he’s ever bonded with so quickly. A calm canine companion may help her feel secure, but she could also thrive as an only dog with the right support. Quirks & Special Traits Dixie’s not stubborn -she’s just unsure. She often settles nearby, finding comfort in simply being close. Every quiet step forward shows her desire to trust. She may not know her name yet, but she’s learning to seek connection on her own terms. Best Home Fit Dixie needs a patient, low-pressure home with a securely fenced yard. She’s not a fit for apartment living right now due to her nerves related to the leash, but with time, she’ll reward your love with quiet loyalty. She has so much potential - she just needs the space and time to blossom. Veterinary Care - Health certificate from a recent vet visit - Up to date on vaccinations - Spayed - Microchipped - On heartworm prevention - Flea/tick prevention - Dewormed

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dixie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
