She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!   Lime is Looking For:   Lime is around just a year old and is hoping to start a new life in the DC area! She doesn't have a lot of asks - just a comfy bed, some good food, walks a few times a day, and some trips to the dog park would be great!! Hikes on the weekend would be good, and cuddling on the couch would be an added bonus. And a training class so she can show you what a smart, responsive good girl -- in fact THE goodest girl -- she is!
