Sex: Male Color: White Eye Color: Brown Birthday: 11/7/23 Weight: 28 lbs Large Dog Friendly: Yes, but larger exuberant dogs may intimidate him Small Dog Friendly: Unknown, but exuberant dogs may intimidate him Cat Friendly: Unknown, but does seem to have a higher prey drive Crate Trained: Pax sleeps in his crate overnight and does great. He has been crated for short periods of time while his foster family has been away from home. Pax can be vocal in a crate, but seems to settle down after a while. Once he hears you come home he is very vocal again. Pax has not been in the crate for long periods in his foster home. Pax will not do well in a home where his people are gone for extended periods of time. Would not recommend shared walls (townhouse/apartment). Housebroken: Yes Energy Level: High Reaction to New People: Pax is shy when meeting strangers. He starts off a bit cautious, preferring to observe from a distance (often with lots to say). With patience, treats and a gentle approach, however, Pax gradually opens up and shows his true, loving nature. Kid Friendly: Pax would do better in a house with older kids. He is scared of young children. Training: Pax has learned to sit, lay down and shake. We are working on additional training. He is very food motivated so is a quick study when treats are involved. Grooming Needs: Pax has a fluffy coat that becomes matted quickly and will need regular brushing Fence: Pax would do best in a home with a fence where he feels safe in his area. His foster home has a 6 foot fence and with warmer temperatures Pax has learned to enjoy running around in the backyard. In colder months Pax usually prefers to be inside rather than in the backyard most of the time. Pax would not be okay if left outside alone for any period of time given his past. Solo or Siblings: Pax will need a confident dog that can continue to help him navigate the social world. Medical: Before rescue, Pax likely received little to no veterinary care. At just one year old, he was severely underweight—only 13.4 pounds. With dedicated care over the past six months, Pax has more than doubled his weight and is now approaching a healthy 30 pounds. Pax may need long-term medication to manage inflammatory lower airway disease, which is possibly allergy-related. He will also need ongoing veterinary follow-up, including future imaging (such as a CT scan or X-rays), to monitor a small nodule on his lungs as well as a mild, innocent heart murmur to ensure they don't develop into more serious issues. From the Foster: Meet Pax, a sweet, resilient pocket-sized husky that has overcome the odds! Pax suffered from severe neglect and prolonged starvation during the early years of his life, which stunted Pax’s growth. Despite his past, Pax has blossomed into a loving companion who craves affection and comfort. Though he's small for his size, Pax’s heart is anything but small. He LOVES food, and mealtime is one of his favorite times of day. It can be quite entertaining as he talks and spins in circles in excitement for his food. Pax also really LOVES walks. His tail wags with each step, as he explores the world and the snuffs and smells they offer. Pax has appreciated the company of the calm, resident dog in his foster home and often looks to her on how to interact in social situations. Pax is just learning about toys and has found they can be fun. He especially likes food puzzles. He also loves to take every squeaky toy out of the toy box to test each one, which has become a daily routine for Pax. He has also learned how to play in his foster home and enjoys wrestling around like huskies do. Pax may be timid around larger dogs that are not as gentle in play. Pax is a shy soul, taking his time to warm up to new faces (and dogs), but once he feels safe, he will be your shadow, offering all the warmth and love he has to give. Pax will need some patience as he adjusts, but, with time, he’ll be your devoted companion, showing you just how resilient and loving a dog can be. Could you be the one to give Pax the love and care he truly deserves?
