My story

Crystal Apricot mini poodle mix 18lbs Approx. 3 years old Being fostered in Island Lake, IL Crystal is a very special girl and will need an even more special home. She was rescued from the Amish and likely has had no love until Tiny Paws stepped in. She was in a foster home and a boarding kennel before coming to my house. I took her as a foster as a last shot to help her thrive. She seemed to be afraid of just about everything. She dislikes being picked up, and has bitten in the past over this, but will now tolerate it under the right conditions. In the 2 weeks that I have had her, she has made AMAZING progress. She still has struggles, but overall seems to be moving in the right direction. She will need a very patient adopter, willing to give her the time she needs to decompress and learn to trust. She will need a fenced in yard, as she spooks with some loud noises. She lets me wipe her paws and belly before she comes inside, but it has to be done slowly. She is very food motivated and loves to eat, she doesn’t seem very picky. She has gotten more relaxed with me walking around the kitchen with her. When she gets scared, she retreats to her cage. It seems to be her safe space, with her comfy bed and fuzzy blanket. But she has been retreating there less and less over time and has started to follow me around the house. I feel with time, she will become more of a confident and normal dog. I don’t think that she will ever be a dog that takes walks or can be loose in a yard. She hasn’t had any accidents in the house, generally low energy, and very low maintenance overall. She would do best as either an only dog or with a calm dog that will give her space and time to get acquainted. I have 2 dogs in my home, and she will lay by them when they are sleeping and is fine when they get up and walk around her. But if they move too quickly, she gets scared. But when we are all settled in for the night, I will sit on the floor curled up right next to me and she seeks me out to lay next to me for comfort and pets. She really is a sweet girl, and I can tell she is trying. But it will just take time to allow her to fully settle in somewhere. Patience is key with her, she will thrive with patience and being allowed to go at her own pace. Contact Vicki (262)496-9324 Adoption fee $350
