My story

Capone was surrendered to the shelter by his family after he began experiencing ongoing gastrointestinal distress and weight loss. His owner believed he may have ingested charcoal or another foreign object in the yard, and despite an initial veterinary visit, they were unable to pursue treatment due to cost and growing concern that Capone was suffering. After nearly ten days of vomiting and lethargy, they made the difficult decision to surrender him for care and evaluation. Despite not feeling his best, Capone has shown himself to be a gentle, sweet-natured boy. He is affectionate and soft, following handlers around outside and leaning in for closeness. Volunteers and staff have noted that Capone is dainty and well-mannered, allowing all handling and walking with minimal pulling. He has a lovely cuddle-bug nature that shines through even as he recovers. Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 7/17 Capone is a sensitive guy with an incredible smile! He was whining in kennel and seems to be overwhelmed in the shelter environment. Despite the situation, he's very sweet and was easy to walk. He enjoyed getting some pets in the yard, but didn't show much interest in treats or play right now. 07/15/2025 Per volunteer 7/15: Capone is a nervous boy but with a little time and some treats, he would come over to me. He does not like walking through the kennels but once he's outside he's a bit more relaxed. He barks at dogs walking by. 07/15/2025 KENNEL PRESENTATION: Capone was whining on his bed with soft eyes and a mid level wagging tail. he was easy to leash and came right out once secured LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally to moderately. had staffy screams throughout the kennels SOCIABILITY : Capone was very gentle and dainty outside he sniffed around and sat near my legs the whole time. he allowed all handling and was loose whenever i got up, he followed. he is a super gentle and soft boy. he was sweet to other staff members and showed n interest in anything but the handlers. PLAY & TOYS: no interest DOG INTERACTION: pulling towards the dogs with his hackles raised and screaming/wailing RETURNING TO KENNEL: walked right into kennel with minimal leash pressure COLOR LEVEL: gold 07/15/2025 according to owner good with cats, kids, and dogs Medical Notes 07/15/2025 Scheduled Physical Exam Vet Exam – General Medical Concern/Other Target Date: 07/15/2025 Reason Notes: PRIORITY Dog is not eating much and hasn't held down food since 7/4 per surrendering owners 07/15/2025 Cageside exam: QAR, came up to front of kennel when approached. Food bowl flipped so unable to tell if food was eaten, but no vomit/diarrhea present in kennel. Offered several jerky strip treats, Capone took readily – started eating some of the kibble from the ground. 07/15/2025 Patient came in and was looked at by Dr. Eric who stated the patient is stable enough to be out in kennel while Tara contacts Bree's Animal Hospital to request full medical records before we move forward with vaccines or treatment. Food was offered; patient sniffed food and licked it but never actually ate it. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
