My story

Wiggins is all puppy charm wrapped in a wiggly, affectionate package. Just a year old, this playful boy is full of life, love, and curiosity. When you walk by his kennel, you’ll find him eagerly waiting at the front, tail wagging and ready to make a new friend! He can be a little nervous at first, especially in busy environments, but warms up quickly with gentle reassurance and a few tasty treats. Once he’s outside, Wiggins is ready to party, bounding after stuffies, zooming around the yard, and checking in with his humans for pets and praise. He absolutely lives for attention! Though still working on his manners, he responds well to soft redirection and is very food motivated. He doesn’t know “sit” yet, but he takes treats gently and is eager to learn. Wiggins has shown friendly interest in other dogs through the fence and would likely enjoy a playful pup pal to help build his confidence. Slow to interact. 07/24/2025 volunteer notes: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Wiggins was at the front of his kennel wiggly and loose. I gave him a treat which he took gingerly. He dodged the leash a few times, so I shut the divider & made a large lasso - once leashed, Wiggins hopped right out of his kennel. He was nervous walking though the kennels & ducking under my feet/pancaking, but quickly grew some confidence w a few treats & walked right outside. LEASH SKILLS: Wiggins is all puppy! He’ll pull towards things he finds exciting, toys, treats, humans, other dogs, but it’s all in good fun! He’s jumpy & excitable, he was up on my waist frequently in the yard. He is food motivated & eager to please, a gentle lift into ”down” & he would put all four paws on the floor. SOCIABILITY: This fella is friendly as can be. He LOVES people. We sat together in the yard and he allowed handling all over, butt scritches seem to be his favorite. Wiggins wants to be close at all times! While he doesn’t know how to sit just yet, he does takes treats w a soft mouth. PLAY & TOYS: Chased stuffies all over. Loves toys!! Took possession & ran around with them. Dropped and traded easily. DOG INTERACTION: Said hello to Banjo through the fence and was excited with a high wagging tail. RETURNING TO KENNEL: Walked to his row coming back in & was very fearful upon return. Wiggins was spinning & pulling backwards on his leash. I tossed a treat into his kennel & got down on his level w a soft voice to calm him. He allowed pets & consoling.
