My story

Meet Chala (again) !! Sadly we trusted the wrong “family” with this sweet baby the first time. They chose to dump her off at a completely full shelter, knowing the risk of her being immediately euthanized, instead of reaching out to us to have us take her back. They were fully aware of how to return her as we previously sent them that information multiple times with no responses. They were too lazy and self-absorbed to do what was in the dogs best interest. They clearly did not care at all what happened to her. Thankfully she is back now and can find the real family that she deserves. This big headed beautiful stocky lady is so sweet and loving. She is an active yet cuddly companion that is looking for her forever home. She is really a fun dog and would be the most loyal companion for someone. She is also very good at home defense. Despite being a big softie she looks scary and has a big bark. She will make anyone think twice about entering uninvited. Chala is a 3-year-old, female, American Bully type. She weighs 70 pounds but is very short and compact. She was returned very overweight. She will need her new family to make sure she gets proper exercise and loses a few pounds to be at her ideal weight.(last photo is her weight when we got her back) She is already vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. Chala is an awesome mix of energy and snuggles. She loves to play and roughhouse with other dogs if you have them but also loves snuggling up in the evening with her family and relaxing. Having another active dog in the home for her to play with would be great but she’s also fine being the only dog and getting all the human love for herself. She isn’t much for fetch or games with people so far but she does love to be near you and lay that big ole head in your lap. She is excellent about her crate training and will sleep in there overnight and has not had any issues being crated for a normal work day while you are gone. She rides great in the car although she makes you help her get in. She is still pulling very strongly on the leash when out on walks. She is a sturdy and strong girl for sure. She’s done really well with potty training. She has been fantastic with all other dogs she’s met. She enjoys having another dog to play with but doesn’t need to have another dog. She has not shown any aggression but she can play roughly mostly due to her size. She would do best if paired with another dog that played in a similar manner. We do not know how she would do with cats. Chala has not been fostered with kids since she arrived to us however her first owner says she does very well with them. She stated she came from a home with 4 kids and that she was gentle with the kids. She is a big strong dog and occasionally will jump up on adults. We can’t say for sure that she wouldn’t knock over or jump on kids. We do not think she would hurt kids or anyone else intentionally but she is a solid girl. We have not seen any issues with her sharing toys, treats or food with humans or other animals. She knows how to sit and will take treats gently. She does growl a lot when playing tug o war so that may be scary to some. She is a big hunk of love just waiting to be your best friend. She is mostly trained with a little refinement needed here and there. If you’re looking for a big headed softie then she may be your girl!! Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) DO NOT APPLY if you have not asked about this dog and been approved by your landlord to have a “pit bull type” or bulldog breed. Don’t assume, ask first BEFORE applying. Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response message our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chala, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
