My story

Meet Elara – A Soul Waiting to Bloom Elara is not the kind of dog who runs to greet you with a wagging tail. She doesn’t know how—yet. For her first year of life, this gentle girl never felt a human’s touch, the joy of a squeaky toy, or the comfort of a clean blanket or bed. Found in a heartbreaking situation with ZERO human contact, born and living with several dogs who were basically just fed & left caged outside. Elara came to us terrified of everything outside of that cage! But here’s the miracle: Elara (or Lala, as we’ve nicknamed her) is super smart and blossoming. She trusts her indoor crate as a safe haven. She potties outside (but fully understands what potty-pads are for if you don’t notice she needs to go out). She is quiet and only barks at imminent danger, like Amazon trucks. She is unfazed by loud storms and fireworks, go figure!?! Lala entertains herself with toys & chewies, loves dogs of all sizes and likes playing fetch. She’s loving her fluffy dog beds and naps, lots of naps, on the couch. She loves her new outdoor experiences — basking in the sun on a CLEAN lawn, sniffing all the mailboxes, and the nice neighbors telling her how cute she is. Lala will need a patient, experienced adopter who understands that after a year of neglect and months of foster care, a new connection will take time. If your reason for adopting is to open your heart & home to a dog who NEEDS you, then Lala is waiting. Her foster mom is going to be very selective on who gets this flower! - Age: ~1.5 years - Breed: Chihuahua Mix - Size: Small (~10 lbs) - Status: Spayed, up-to-date on vaccines My Ideal Home: experienced, confident dog person; walkable neighborhood and/or fenced yard; not ready for scary, small kiddos quite yet; would love a fur-sibling, but also happy as can be as a single pet. Someone who will give me lots of time to blossom into the snuggler I want to become. Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. Puppies - We do not adopt puppies under 16 weeks to out of state adopters. This is due to our spay/neuter policy, and all dogs must be spayed/neutered before leaving Georgia state lines. We do not adopt siblings to the same household. Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption. Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Elara, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
