My story

Say hello to Kimchi – a handsome, 5-year-old cropped and docked red Doberman. He was surrendered through no fault of his own and has been settling in beautifully in his foster home. Kimchi is a gentle, sweet-natured boy who thrives on being near his people. He’s a classic “velcro Doberman”, following his foster mom from room to room, always wanting to be part of the action (or the nap). While he takes a little time to warm up to men, once he trusts you, he’s incredibly affectionate and loyal. He’s generally calm and laid-back around the house. He does well in his crate, especially when soft music is playing, and sleeps through the night with only a bit of initial whining. He does get a little anxious when left alone, but with structure and comfort, he’s learning to feel more secure. Kimchi knows how to sit and will lie down with some encouragement. He walks nicely on leash and responds well to gentle corrections (he responds to “eh-eh” better than “no”). He’s currently working on name recognition and building responsiveness to human voices. He enjoys soft toys, especially carrying a plushy around like a prized possession, and prefers sleeping with a “pillow,” often a toy or a shoe. He’s only moderately food-motivated (we suspect he was given a fair share of treats and people food in his previous life), but he’s a very gentle treat taker. Kimchi has done well meeting other dogs while on leash. He’s curious and friendly, with playful energy that’s easy to redirect as necessary. He may enjoy a calm canine companion, but would also be perfectly content as your one and only. Kimchi is house-trained and lets you know he needs to go out by pacing. He does sometimes chew on his back legs when bored or anxious, so his ideal home will provide structure, enrichment, and lots of love. He’s not bothered by thunderstorms, fireworks, or barking dogs and is overall a wonderful, mellow companion looking for a patient, loving home to help him feel safe and secure.” Kimchi is fostered in DC. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kimchi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
