My story

**Meet Kolton!**🐺 This striking Siberian Husky was found as a stray, underweight and alone on the streets of NYC. His rescuers noted he was gentle and easy to handle-even hopping into their car without hesitation. Since arriving at ACC, Kolton has been regaining strength, learning to trust, and showing glimmers of the loyal, intelligent companion we know he can be.---**My ideal home:**Kolton is looking for a calm, adult-only household where he can decompress and settle in at his own pace. A husky-savvy adopter who understands the breed's independent nature-and has experience building trust with shy or nervous dogs-would be ideal. A yard would be a plus, but not required if he gets plenty of exercise and enrichment.---**Good with kids?**Due to his fearful reactions to touch and occasional vocalizations (like a low growl during medical exams), Kolton should go to a home without young children. Teens or older, dog-experienced kids may be considered with a slow introduction.---**Good with other pets?**Kolton met a friendly female dog here at the shelter and remained neutral-interested, but unsure how to engage. He may be open to living with another calm, respectful dog following a slow, structured introduction. He has not been cat-tested.---**Leash Manners:**Kolton walks politely on leash with a loose frame and is responsive to direction, though he may walk slowly, especially in the heat. His pace and posture are improving as his energy returns and he becomes more comfortable.---**Overall health:**Kolton arrived severely underweight (Body Condition Score 2/9) and is currently on a special diet to help him gain weight. He has had bouts of diarrhea and vomiting-likely due to refeeding and stress-but he's eating wet food well and has already gained 3 pounds. Bloodwork revealed mild anemia and low thyroid hormone levels, but veterinarians believe this may be related to his poor condition and are holding off on treatment for now. He is not yet neutered due to his weight, but a spay/neuter waiver has been issued for adoption.---**Behavior determination: Level 3**Kolton is sweet but cautious. He accepts gentle touch but may look back nervously or pant when handled. He's shown no aggression but needs an adopter who can go slow and respect his boundaries. During intake and assessments, he was cooperative despite being nervous. Food is a big motivator for him, and he's already showing that he knows some basic commands like "sit" and "lie down."---**Fun facts:**🍽 Food motivated-takes treats gently and loves a good mealtime🧊 Classic husky-he howls occasionally and enjoys exploring new spaces🎯 Knows basic cues like "sit" and "down"🧘 Needs a quiet space and lots of TLC to fully shine Primary Color: Gray Weight: 36 Age: 5yrs 0mths 1wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Kolton, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
