My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $700 Meet Crayola – Your Pint-Sized Lab Full of Love and Personality   If you’ve ever wished for a Labrador in a more compact size, Crayola is the answer. This 1 year old mini Lab mix weighs just 22 pounds but brings all the heart, charm, and goofy sweetness of the classic Lab personality.   About Crayola   Crayola started off a bit timid in her foster home, but it didn’t take long for her affectionate, curious side to come through. Now, she’s a happy, confident little shadow dog who loves to follow her people from room to room, flop down nearby with a toy, and snuggle in close whenever she can. She’s especially cuddly in the morning, after walks, and at the end of the day— her ideal night involves couch time and curling up with her favorite humans.   Crayola has a playful streak too. She enjoys short bursts of zoomies and loves goofing around. She plays well independently with chew toys and settles into dog beds or her crate for naps throughout the day.   Crayola’s Routine   She sleeps in her foster’s bedroom, usually in the bed, and settles easily around 10 p.m. After about eight hours, she’ll wake up for a potty break and might go back to bed for a little while. Breakfast is between 7 and 8 a.m., and she eats with great enthusiasm. Dinner comes about twelve hours later, and she’s just as excited for it.   Crayola enjoys one or two walks a day and takes her time sniffing the neighborhood. She may pull slightly if there’s another dog she wants to meet, but otherwise, she’s calm on leash. Indoors, she’s happy to rest in her crate, especially if there’s a chew to enjoy. When her humans leave the house, she goes into her crate willingly and often brings a toy along.   Training and Behavior   Potty trained: Yes. She started out preferring the yard but now reliably goes on walks too.   Crate trained: Yes. She settles easily and sometimes chooses to rest there on her own.   Food motivated: Very. She doesn’t guard her food but will try to sneak bites from others.   Chewing: She enjoys toys but hasn’t shown any destructive behavior.   Barking: She barks when the doorbell rings or if she hears people in another room while she’s in her crate. She does not bark excessively.   Dog, Cat, and Kid Friendly   Crayola is friendly and playful with other dogs. She initially chased the household cats but has learned to respect their space and leaves them alone unless invited to play. She has interacted well with older children, warming up to them the same way she does with adults—cautiously at first, then sweet and affectionate.   Special Personality Traits   One of Crayola’s funniest quirks is her love of water. She will happily splash in outdoor water bowls, bite at the hose spray, and make puddles just for fun. It’s pure joy to watch.   Ideal Home   Crayola would do well in a home where she gets plenty of attention. She loves being around her people and would enjoy a home with either no other dogs or just one friendly and playful companion. She’s affectionate, smart, and clearly thrilled to be part of a home. She gives kisses, gently holds your face with her paws, and makes every day feel like the best one ever.   Why Adopt Crayola   She’s affectionate, funny, social, and adorably small for a Lab mix. Crayola is the kind of dog who reminds you how good life with a dog can be. She’s full of gratitude, curiosity, and love, and she’s ready to find a family who will appreciate every splashy, snuggly, face-holding moment.   If you’re ready for a companion who’s equal parts playful pup and devoted lap dog, Crayola is waiting.        July 20, 2025, 2:30 pm
