Meet Dory! We met this sweet girl through our Spay/Neuter Coalition Program. She had been living as a stray and may have spent her entire life wandering the streets. A kind woman in the community, already caring for several outdoor dogs in unsafe conditions, took her in and advocated for her. While it wasn’t a long-term solution, she reached out for help to get Dory vetted, and thanks to the program, Dory was spayed, breaking the cycle for good. Dory is one of the lucky few who made it to rescue. She’s now been in her foster home for just over a week, finally getting to experience the comfort and safety of a real home, and her new life has officially begun. We checked in with her foster mom, Kelly, for an update: “Dory has been an amazing houseguest. She sleeps peacefully in her crate at night in our bedroom…no drama at all. She’s pretty low energy right now, but I think that’s because everything is still so new to her. She hasn’t had a single accident in the house (Good girl, Dory!) We keep her in the kitchen when we’re gone, and when we check the camera, she’s just snoozing. From the start, she’s been very friendly and loves attention. When we sit on the couch, she snuggles up and makes sure part of her is touching one of us. She lets us handle her all over without issue. We’ve started doing leash walks, and she does pretty well. She never pulls, but she’s not a fan of this extreme South Carolina heat and usually just wants to head back home. She’s very trainable/ We’ve started working on “sit” and “bed” (we have a special dog bed for her in the kitchen). She also met a contractor at the house and, after a quick sniff, let him pet her. We haven’t heard her bark once. She just gives a tiny whine by the door when she needs to go out. Zero signs of aggression over anything. She’s become super affectionate, and is now rolling over for belly rubs, but mostly, she loves to nap and gaze out the windows.” Dory’s story is just beginning, and we’re so proud of how far she’s already come. Stay tuned for more updates on this gentle, loving girl as she continues to blossom in her foster home. Apply today!
