My story

Animal Profile: Meet Gracie! In April we were contacted by Furry Freight about a mama German Shepherd who had just given birth to ten tiny puppies in Amarillo Animal Services high-kill shelter. One of the puppies did not make it and the entire family was facing euthanasia when we came up with a plan. Our rescue partner in Texas agreed to take the family into foster care until they were ready to travel. Her foster home in Texas reports that Gracie has been a wonderful mom to her puppies and is confident, polite, but not outwardly demonstrative until she has trust in you. She walks well on leash, kept her puppy area clean, and is not interested (yet) in toys but likes liver, cottage cheese and peanut butter. Gracie did well around strange dogs and people for her vet visit; she tested positive for two tick-borne diseases (both treatable and she will make a full recovery) and will be joining us in foster care on June 13.  We will share more info as we get to know her.  Foster Update: Gracie is making great strides in her foster home here in Seattle. She is a sweet girl who loves attention and pets! She walks well on leash and is crate and potty trained, though doesn't love to be home alone for long periods, so a work from home situation might be ideal for Gracie. She  is a little nervous with initial introductions and is naturally cautious of people, but once she is comfortable she is loving and gentle. She loves getting attention and does well with positive affirmation. Gracie is also cautious with dogs but after slow introduction with my resident dog she has been very friendly with and content around her. She gives my dog licks, likes to be go on walks with her, and likes having her bed next to her while they relax in the family room. She has also gotten comfortable with the resident cat walking around while she relaxes in her dog bed. Gracie is an old soul and is still finding her playful side. She doesn’t seem interested in playing ball or with chew toys but she has a stuffy toys that she likes to cuddle with. Gracie is a beautiful dog with the most emotive eyes.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, negative heartworm test if over 6 months, and health certificate. Your donation may be tax deductible as DG is a 501c3 organization. This dog will be fostered in the greater Seattle area and available for adoption once evaluated.August 18, 2025, 11:29 pm
