My story

After spending time in a foster home, Lace will be at our shelter as of 7/18/25 waiting to meet you. Please submit an application from our website or just come in to meet her during open hours! ***You may have noticed the red bubble in the corner of Lace's right eye-- that is known as "cherry eye," which is a protrusion of the tear-producing gland in a dog's third eyelid. On 7/16, Lace had minor surgery at our shelter to correct that but of course all of her current pictures show her pre-cherry eye repair! Lace is a beauty who wound up at Chicago Animal Care and Control along with the other dogs in her home, after being confiscated by animal control due to the owner not be able to take proper care of them. While she may have endured some neglect in the past, she certainly doesn't fault anyone for that given how much she loves everyone right off the bat! Since her arrival, Lace has spent time in a wonderful foster home with a couple with two other dogs, and two children aged 3 and 7. Her foster mom says she does great with the kids! And with everyone else who has visited their busy household. Of course, she is still a young pup so when the kids get amped Lace may too, and that is when she gets slightly mouthy but is easily redirected with treats. Lace is *very* treat and food-motivated, which is going to make training her a breeze! Lace is mostly housebroken, but needs to be kept on a strict routine and watched for her signals. But she has improved so much in the past two weeks alone, we know she will get the hang in no time. Lace loves to follow her canine foster siblings around and learn from them. She is very good at picking up their signals when they don't want to play (they are seniors!), and Lace is happy to nap right next to them. Another great thing about Lace is that she is crate trained! She is very comfortable in her crate, especially when left in it with a frozen Kong! Lace's foster mom writes, "Lace is a fun and playful puppy. She is a very sweet girl who will run around in the yard and will then snuggle on the couch for a movie. Sometimes I catch her in the yard hopping like a bunny to get her toys. Lace is the ultimate snuggle queen! She doesn’t want to be anywhere but touching you overnight and will adjust her position each time you do." We hope you will hurry in to meet this snuggle-bug! Lace’s adoption fee is $300. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lace, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
