My story

Meet Oreo, the quite and shy boy who is looking for a home and some humans to call his own. Oreo is what we call a spirit cat, spirit cats tend to bond to one or two people in the home and make themselves busy when guests are other people are over. Oreo enjoys head pets once he has warmed up to you, has livied with children as young as 5 years old and allowed them to pet him whenever he was out and about in the home. Oreo has lived with a large breed dog and with a slow introduction began sleeping, playing, and grooming the dog- Oreo did have to put the dog in his place before so if you have a canine they should be cat savvy and a slow introduction should be set up. Oreo has lived with another cat before and was not the biggest fan, if you have another cat at home and are interested in Oreo he requests a super suuuuper slow intro is done so that everyone is set up for success. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
