My story

Introducing Mia! Initially Shy Curious Smart Playful Personality: Mia is an affectionate and curious Great Dane with gentle but timid demeanor. Despite her challenging past, she has blossomed into a loving and playful dog with a spirit that continues to grow each day. Mia loves starting her mornings with wiggle jumps and snuggles, showcasing her sweet and vibrant personality. Socialness: Mia adores her family, including two teenagers, two dogs, and a cat. She does not fear men and is particularly good with calm, patient humans. While she is cautious around strangers, her curiosity helps her warm up quickly, especially when treats are involved. Mia does well with children but may initially be apprehensive around younger children. She thrives in the company of other dogs, benefiting from their companionship and guidance. Her interactions with cats have been gentle, and she even allows the family cat to nap near or on her. Likes: Rubdowns in the morning and giving the classic Great Dane “lean.” Playing chase and exploring the yard with her canine companions. Taking peaceful walks and enjoying new sights and smells. Car rides, especially by the window. Relaxing during movie time with her family. Chewing on toys and soaking up attention from her people. Dislikes: Being crated for extended periods; she prefers a gated area or free roam. Abrupt or overly eager introductions; she needs time to trust new people. Loud, high-energy environments or aggressive dogs. Training: Mia is housebroken and has quickly learned the routines of her foster home. She does not guard her food or toys and takes treats with gentleness. She is excellent on walks, showing little to no pulling and responding well to cues. Mia is working on basic commands like “sit” and “leave it,” often following the lead of the other dogs in her home. Her forever family should continue her training with patience and positive reinforcement to build her confidence further. Health: Mia is in good health with no current concerns. She had her stomach tacked during her spay surgery. She is on anxiety medication to help with separation anxiety. Forever Home Requirements: Companionship: Mia needs another dog who can help her continue learning how to trust and feel secure. A calm, non-aggressive dog companion would be her ideal match. Environment: A physical fence is not required but is recommended to give her a safe place to explore. Any size yard is acceptable, provided she gets adequate exercise. Family Lifestyle: Mia would do best in a home where she is not left alone for long periods – ideally a family that is gone 4 hours or less at a time. She needs a family that can spend time with her, providing patience and love. Children in the home should be calm and preferably older. Daily Life: Her new family should be ready to help her continue building confidence with positive reinforcement and gentle guidance. Apartments: She might do ok in an apartment setting if she has a companion dog and easy access to get outdoors. Time Alone: Due to separation anxiety, Mia needs a family who is gone for 4 hours or less during the day.  Fun Fact: Mia’s favorite part of the day is when the family gathers to watch a movie. She loves snuggling close and maybe even getting some popcorn, making her the ultimate couch companion. Her playful morning wiggle jumps and eagerness for attention bring endless smiles to her foster family. Mia is a beautiful soul who deserves a loving forever home that will cherish her gentle heart and help her continue to grow into the confident and happy dog she’s meant to be.
