My story

Looking for a sweet, snuggly companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality? Meet Lucy, a 4-year-old terrier mix with a long, white scruffy coat and enthusiasm for her people. At just 15 lbs, she’s the perfect pint-sized partner for someone seeking a loyal, affectionate best friend. Lucy is house-trained, spayed, and up to date on all her vaccines. While she adores her people (and will follow you everywhere), she’s working on learning some healthy independence — she’s making great progress sleeping in her crate at night! Lucy’s devotion can sometimes turn into protectiveness — she struggles with resource guarding over her “person,” especially around other dogs. Because of this, an adult-only home (or one with older teens) where boundaries are clear would be ideal. She can also become very reactive on walks as her bond deepens, so she’ll need continued work in calm, controlled environments to help her learn safe dog-to-dog social skills. We are not sure it is 100% aggression…she seems to be conflicted and intensely enthusiastic — a little dog with a big drive to protect what she loves. Off-leash time in a secure area, structured socialization with balanced dogs, and an experienced or patient adopter will go a long way in helping Lucy shine. If you’re ready to open your heart to a loyal companion who will adore you endlessly — and you’re up for training and a lot of cuddles — Lucy might just be your perfect match.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lucy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
