My story

*Please read Bamboo's FULL bio before applying.* Bamboo is a 1-year-old, 10lb Schnauzer/Chihuahua mix with a sweet, sensitive soul. We rescued him from a small rural shelter in Texas, where he and another dog were found as strays, and terrified.. While Bamboo was initially shy upon arrival to Colorado, he seemed relieved to leave the shelter behind and quickly perked up in his foster home—especially with the comfort of another small dog to play with and learn from. From Bamboo's foster: * * * * "You haven't lived until you've snuggled with this cutie patootie!! He enjoys being at home with his humans and finds comfort in a routine. Bamboo loves to chase balls and is doing great bringing them back… but it’s not a guarantee! His favorite game is “Touch” because he loves to earn cheese treats! Bamboo is 10lbs of Mini Schnauzer love and snuggles, once he gets to know you! Although he is affectionate with his caregivers, he is leary of strangers (especially males) and will do best in a quiet home with few opportunities to socialize. He does well with other dogs but sometimes the dog park is overwhelming because of all the unfamiliar people around. He sleeps in a crate at night but loves to snuggle deep under the covers too! He loves to bury himself in blankets and clothes, especially if they are fresh out of the dryer. He likes his snuffle mat and foraging for his dinner- tearing up boxes seem to be his favorite! Bamboo is learning that the world is not a scary place and will require a patient, gentle, trained person who can build his confidence at his pace. " * * * * Bamboo is a sweet dog, in need of a calm, loving home. Bamboo is looking for a strictly female-only, adult-only home. He has showed fear-based reactivity toward men, and because of this, we will only consider homes without any male residents or frequent male visitors. His perfect match will be someone who works from home, has a calm and quiet household, and can offer him consistency, patience, and space to decompress. Bamboo is not a social-outing dog - he won’t enjoy being taken to cafes, dog-friendly events, or busy walking trails. He is happiest in his own familiar environment with people he knows and trusts. Another small dog in the home is a must. Bamboo thrives with the companionship of another friendly dog. He gains confidence from their presence, enjoys playing with them, and relaxes more easily when he has a canine buddy nearby. Once Bamboo feels safe, his funny, loving personality starts to shine and he is a sweet, silly little boy! He’ll need continued training—something we require for all Farfel’s adoptions—with an adopter who is committed to helping him build confidence through structure, patience, and gentle positive reinforcement. A dog-savvy / experienced adopter is a must. Bamboo is a lovable little guy full of potential. He just needs the right person to help him feel safe and understood. If you’re the kind of person who finds joy in giving a misunderstood underdog the chance to blossom, Bamboo might be your perfect match. Bamboo is up to date on his vetting, vaccines, and neutered.
