My story

SAAP Nation, I know I come to you with all the CUTEST babies with all of the SADDEST stories, but I’ve got yet another one.    Meet JOHNNY!!!   I’ve been keeping him my little secret while he’s been recovering and healing. See, Johnny came to me almost a month ago, and when tested by our vet on intake, he was found to be heartworm positive.  SAAP couldn’t turn their back on him even though the treatment was unexpected and expensive. And neither could I!! He needed us more than ever now.    These pictures are Johnny today. A thriving, happy, healthy pup!! Treatment for heartworm is a VERY painful, 2 day treatment, in which time Johnny also was neutered. He was in pain, exhausted, scared, confused as to where he now was, and incredibly underweight.  But you know what, he was still so friendly to me and my family, and his tail was wagging when he met my crazy crew of dogs!! He had a resilience and a determination to get and feel better!!   2 weeks into treatment, we discovered poor Johnny also had tapeworms. Luckily for me and my disgusted family, and for sweet Johnny, the treatment was so quick and easy! Soon after, we realized Johnny has a mild case of kennel cough. Seriously, can this angelic dog catch a break?!?!   One month later, and Johnny is just a fabulous, healthy dog!!! He’s so happy and adorable! He’s put on weight (gladly), and he shows his gratitude daily!! He’s the kind of dog you can’t help but fall in love with immediately!     Johnny is an approximately 2 year old, 24lbs beagle mix! He’s fabulous with kids, all dogs, and even cats! He’s submissive and sweet, without an ounce of aggression in him. He is crate trained, but doesn’t like it and luckily, doesn’t need one. He’s never chewed on anything he shouldn’t. Yay!! Oh, and he has the funniest walk!! I can’t really explain it. You’ll just have to apply for him and see it for yourself!!   He’s all done with all of his heartworm medicine, and he’s FINALLY ready for adoption!!!    Have I convinced you yet to apply for my baby boy, Johnny??     Apply now and bring Johnny home this week!July 14, 2025, 2:33 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Johnny, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
