My story

Benny is an 11-year-old, 20-pound wiry terrier mix of pure perfection. He came into Waggytail’s care at the beginning of July after his owners surrendered him to the Bushwick police precinct. When our volunteer arrived to pick him up, Benny was wary and confused, his world had been turned upside down. A vet exam revealed just how much Benny had endured. He was suffering from a painful, systemic yeast infection that left his skin inflamed and covered in sores, and his ears were badly infected. But Benny is a fighter. With time, treatment, and love, he’s made a remarkable recovery and continues to heal every day. Since coming into foster care, Benny has shown that age is just a number—he loves to play fetch with balls and plushies and has plenty of pep in his step. He walks beautifully on leash, enjoys slow strolls with his foster siblings, and is happiest when he’s by your side. Benny adores being petted, sleeps soundly through the night, and is fully housebroken. Benny likes to self-soothes with his beloved piggy pacifier and seeks comfort in being close to people of all ages—babies, kids, adults, and seniors alike. He would thrive in a calm home with someone who works remotely or is retired. His foster is helping him build confidence and manage his anxiety, and he’s making steady progress each day. Benny just needs a patient adopter who can offer him the time, compassion, and structure to truly shine. He has the most charming underbite, a hint of a mohawk, and adorably crooked teeth that make him all the more irresistible. Benny can be reactive on leash but is easily redirected and improving every day. He previously lived peacefully with cats and children, and would do well as a solo dog or with the another dog companion. He’s currently being fostered alongside two other dogs and is doing well! Benny is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative. His ongoing care includes weekly medicated baths which he handles like a champ. Benny is a dog who’s known heartbreak, but he hasn’t lost his gentle spirit. He’s ready to spend his golden years loved, secure, and surrounded by kindness. If you have room in your heart and home for a resilient little soul, Benny just might be your perfect match. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Neutered and heartworm negative. Needs microchip. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Benny, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org ##2452084##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Benny, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
