My story

Most of Porter’s 9 years were spent with his family in Oregon. When the family decided to get a second dog, they forgot to get Porter’s opinion, and he wasn’t happy with a younger and larger brother. Porter became irritable and snappy. Then, when Porter’s family was preparing to move and could only take one of their two dogs, Porter was not the chosen one. Fortunately, Porter’s Big E appointment was with a mobile vet who was also a friend of an SCDR volunteer. Porter was accepted into SCDR’s foster program and two weeks later, was being transported to southern California and a new life of love and acceptance, never to be left behind again! Porter is a black-and-tan dachshund mix. We’re not sure of the mix, but he’s got strong dachshund characteristics and longer legs. In his previous home, he spent a lot of time in a crate, including bed time, but Porter is enjoying a crate-free life at his foster home, and truly enjoying it! He is separated at meal times from other dogs because he is an enthusiastic eater of anything placed before him, but he doesn’t mind – he runs into his eating area, eats with his usual gusto, then waits patiently while others finish their meals. Porter enjoys being with his people, but is not too fond of sharing his people with other dogs. He has a low rumbly growl if another dog tries to barge in on a cuddle with his foster mom, but has out never been aggressive. Porter doesn’t have any close friends at his foster mom’s house, but he is comfortable being part of the pack. Every night, he checks the big bed situation, usually finding it too crowded for his liking, and finds his own comfy spot. Porter is house-trained with a doggy door and rides well in a car. He has not shown a tendency to play with toys, but then, he has a lot of competition at his foster mom’s. If someone else wants his toy, Porter is more than willing to give it up! Porter is an enthusiastic walker and tends to pull, but he also responds to some correction most of the time! We suspect that he did not get out much for a walk with his previous owners. Porter also does an excellent job of alerting his foster mom when a package is being delivered! Porter has been exposed to cats and bunnies at his foster mom’s house, but they live in separate areas. While he has shown interest without aggression, we cannot be certain about face-to-face. Porter’s vaccines are up-to-date. He’s neutered and microchipped. If you are interested in Porter, please contact Jean at 714-803-0154 or email jshill828@gmail.com. An adoption application and home check are required.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Porter/Courtesy Post, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
