My story

Mel is approximately three years old and weighs 11 pounds. Her and 17 other dogs were confiscated by Animal Control after these dogs had survived a house fire. Mel is very shy, submissive, and quiet. She does not bite, but is very scared and it takes her a couple days to want to come to a new person. She will run away from people she does not know however it only takes a couple days to come around and make new friends. She does still cower when she comes to you and often will have her big scared doe eyes. She’s missing some fur on her back. We are not sure if that is from flea dermatitis or just poor living conditions or both. She has lived a pretty tough life up until now. Although she is afraid and there have been a lot of changes, little does she know that the best part is just around the corner. The adopted part. The having a real home , a bed and a family, to not have to live in filth with 17 other dogs, to not have fleas or wonder if she is eating that day. To not have to keep having babies. Mel is a very sweet, loving and timid girl but in just a few short days we seen her grow more and more, the little tail wags, and dance at breakfast time, the deep sleep on the clean fluffy bed, the morning sun baths and big rescued breaths, we see her, and every day she shines just a little brighter. I do not think Mel requires a fenced yard however she does require quite a bit of caution in her first few days while walking her on leash and harness, a well fitted harness, a quick trip to a quiet part of your yard and back inside until she is a little more comfy with the new surroundings. Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given. To get approved please visit our website www.texaschihuahuarescuecanada.org to fill in an application to adopt.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mel, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
