My story

Cherokee – A Silent Heart Waiting for a Forever Home   In the forgotten woods of rural Mississippi, where dogs are too often left to survive without help, a mother roamed with her babies—unseen, unheard, unfought for. Her name is Cherokee, and she is one of the lucky few to be pulled from that life of quiet suffering.   No one knows how long Cherokee had been on her own, or how she came to give birth in the wild. Her puppies were small and scared. But Cherokee? She was calm. She didn’t run. She didn’t hide. She simply looked up at her rescuers with tired, trusting eyes—as if to ask, “Is it finally safe to rest?”   She let them touch her. She let them help her. Over 100 ticks were pulled from her skin, and she stood perfectly still—not flinching, not trembling—just waiting, patiently, for someone to care.   Cherokee is about 4 years old, 58 pounds, and still needs to gain weight—her body shows the hardship she’s endured, but her soul? It’s unshaken. She is quiet, gentle, incredibly loving, and open to every ounce of kindness offered her.   She’s wonderful with other dogs, kind to cats, and welcomes soft words and gentle hands like someone who has waited a lifetime to be seen. She rides well in the car once she’s in, and now that she’s in a loving foster home (as of July 11th) with Critter Cavalry Rescue, she’s beginning to bloom.   On July 14th, she will be spayed and officially ready for her new life—one we’ve promised will never again include hunger, loneliness, or fear.   If you’ve ever wanted to change a life, Cherokee is the one.   She doesn’t ask for much. Just love. Stability. A warm bed. And a family who won’t forget her the way the world once did.   Please help us keep our promise to Cherokee.   Email us at ccrnewengland@gmail.com to adopt. Include your city and state when inquiring. We adopt locally in Tennessee and transport from Nashville to the Northeast.   Cherokee has waited long enough. Be the one who tells her: You’re home now. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.July 13, 2025, 11:32 am

If you have any questions or would like to adopt CHEROKEE, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
